German Council Presidency sets course for a future-proof biofuels industry

July 5, 2020 |

In Germany, UFOP reports that the semi-annual EU Council Presidency of the German government which began on July 1st needs to set the course for a “future-proof biofuels industry,” saying that biofuels are essential for meeting the climate protection goals in the commitment period 2021 to 2030.

The German Federal Government has set a goal in its program that it wants to “work towards climate-friendly, sustainable and affordable mobility”. But according to UFOP, despite all efforts, the transport sector in Germany has so far made practically no contribution to climate protection. Both higher performance-to-weight ratios of the vehicle fleet and an increase in road freight transport have more than compensated for technological efficiency gains and greenhouse gas savings.
