Lithuanian terminals see huge jump in biofuel transshipping due to RED

July 9, 2020 |

In Lithuania, Bunkerspot reports that national terminal operator KN says biofuel throughput has been 37,000 metric tons this year so far compared to just 5,000 tons during all of 2019. KN Klaipėda Oil Terminal transships ethanol and biodiesel and is among only three ports in the Baltic region handling biofuels, which also includes Ventspils and Liepaja (Latvia). The increase in throughput coincides with the rising biofuel demand as countries rush to implement 10% renewable energy content in transport by 2020 in lined with the Renewable Energy Directive.
