UK expert warns of engine damage due to E10

July 13, 2020 |

In the UK, the Express newspaper reports that a local expert who has written a book about classic cars says that E10 will be damaging to all vehicles, potentially causing “burned valves” or “burned pistons” because of the higher ethanol content. He said that due to ethanol’s oxygen content, engines must be tuned to have specific air and gasoline mixtures, otherwise they could suffer damage. He said as a result of ethanol the engines will “run weak”. The government is preparing to implement E10 after several years of delays that have negatively impacted the viability of domestic ethanol producers who needed the mandated demand to stay afloat.
