In Canada, local press reports that public opposition is building up against Cielo’s planned C$30 million waste-to-renewable diesel facility. Paterson Grain filed a formal submission to Cypress County’s municipal planning commission saying the proposed facility would potentially risk its nearby operations due to “potential chemical exposure” leading to “severe and long-lasting implications.” Cielo has responded saying opposition comes from not understanding the closed system that the refinery will employ that will have no other waste streams apart from Sulphur that will be transformed into fertilizer.
