Switzerland builds back up ethanol stocks after getting caught short in pandemic

August 12, 2020 |

In Switzerland, after finding itself short without ethanol reserves when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Reuters reports the country will rebuild its ethanol stocks to former levels before it was dismantled two years ago. Previously, the country had between 8,000 and 10,000 metric tons of ethanol on hand in case of health emergencies. The government has approved a $6.4 million expenditure this week to rebuild those stocks. Domestic distillers to famous perfume makers jumped on the case to fill the country’s supply gap when the pandemic led to a lack of availability of hand sanitizers on store shelves.
