Z Energy says exporting biodiesel to the US more profitable than domestic sales

August 24, 2020 |

In New Zealand, Stuff reports that the head of Z Energy says exporting its biodiesel to the US is more economically viable than selling its fuel domestically. In the US market, the company’s biodiesel can get NZ$0.17 per liter in subsidies whereas in New Zealand there are no such programs to make the fuel viable for the local market. He said oil prices of NZ$150 per barrel or carbon prices upwards of NZ$150 per metric ton would make the fuel competitive without subsidies, but that’s a long way off.
