Canadian biofuel industry fared pretty well during pandemic

In Canada, a USDA GAIN report says that the country’s biofuel industry has fared pretty well during the COVID-19 pandemic with record monthly ethanol exports seen in May and June at 15.6 million liters and 17 million liters respectively. That helped to counter the 60% drop in fuel demand seen in Quebec and Ontario in May. An ethanol plant has received certification under the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive, so exports to the Netherlands have grown while supplies are imported from the US to fill local demand. A Quebecois biodiesel plant was shut the entire month of April due to the pandemic, however.
