Saskatchewan concerned federal Clean Fuel Standard will cripple weakened energy industry

September 21, 2020 |

In Canada, the Canadian Press reports the Saskatchewan government is concerned the proposed Clean Fuel Standard will just be another carbon tax on the same emissions. The provinces’ energy and resources minister wrote to the federal minister of natural resources expressing concerns that the rules that would come into effect in 2022 with the aim of reducing carbon emissions by 30 million metric tons would kick the country’s fossil fuel industry while it’s down. The standard requires carbon intensity reduction of all fossil-based fuels but not of alternative fuels.
