#3 Celebrity favorite Pangaia launches sneaker made from wine waste

In London, sustainable clothing brand Pangaia has launched zero-waste sneakers made from grapes and recycled rubber.

The company used 6.5 billion liters of grape waste—including stalks, skin and seeds—from Italy’s wineries to generate the leather replacement. The shoes also feature a 100% recycled rubber sole, cotton laces with recycled plastic aglet, and biobased glue.

Pangaia says the shoes are “ultra-comfortable, lightweight, breathable.” They are available on Pangaia’s website in black and white for $245, along with earlier athletic gear boasting celebrity followers such as Justin Bieber and Kourtney Kardashian.

Vegan leather from grape waste has already been marketed by fast fashion mainstay H&M through a partnership with Vegea.
