DOE issues RFI related to enhanced weathering as mechanism for CO2 removal

October 18, 2020 |

In Washington, D.C., the U.S. Department of Energy issued a request for information seeking viewpoints regarding research and development needs associated with specific challenges to enhanced weathering (EW) as a mechanism to capture and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

This RFI seeks to understand the current state of the art for EW including:

  • Disposition of products and materials from the EW process
  • Opportunities for commercial deployment
  • Challenges associated with development and deployment.

EW approaches of interest are those that involve land application of materials that weather into constituents that react with and bind carbon dioxide, leading to carbon removal from the atmosphere.

Responses to the RFI, Research Needs Related to Enhanced Weathering as a Mechanism for Carbon Dioxide Removal, are due by November 6, 2020.
