In Uganda, NTV reports that Smart Start Industries has commissioned its $1.87 million, 70 million liter per year ethanol plant in Masindi. The facility uses molasses as feedstock, taking advantage of the increased investment in sugarcane production national over the last several years. The biofuel law that would see ethanol blended into gasoline has been developed but not yet implemented, causing challenges for the newly launched facility out of the gate as there is currently no market for the fuel domestically.
