As we wrap up the month of October, we have lots of moves going on in the bioeconomy with a farewell to U.S. Grains Council’s Manager of Ethanol Trade Policy and Economics, a new Vice President of Business Development at Calyxt, and not one but two moves going on at BASF and another two moves at Stora Enso’s leadership.

USGC Bids Farewell To Manager Of Ethanol Trade Policy And Economics Candice Wilson

Candice Wilson, U.S. Grains Council (USGC) manager of ethanol trade policy and economics, departed the Council on Oct. 21 to pursue educational opportunities.

Wilson joined the Council in September 2017 as the graduate fellow in economics and ethanol. In this role, Wilson worked on a variety of projects ranging from ethanol research to analysis of global supply and demand for coarse grains and co-products.

In August 2018, the Council promoted Wilson to manager of ethanol trade policy. In that role, she managed trade policy issues related to ethanol and continued work on global economic analysis.

Calyxt Appoints Sarah Reiter as Vice President of Business Development

Calyxt, Inc., a plant-based technology company, announced that it appointed Sarah Reiter as Vice President, Business Development. In this role, Ms. Reiter will drive new business opportunities at Calyxt to support the company’s recently announced go-to-market strategies.

Ms. Reiter is a plant-based technology and agribusiness leader focused on establishing world-class partnerships and value chains that lead to the successful commercialization of emerging technologies for start-up, early-stage and Fortune 500 companies. With more than 25 years of expertise in agribusiness, Ms. Reiter most recently served as the chief commercial officer of Arcadia Biosciences where she led the company’s commercial and product portfolio strategies and sales to consumer-packaged goods companies globally.

Neste’s Mercedes Alonso joins the Board of European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic)

Mercedes Alonso, Neste’s Executive Vice President of Renewable Polymers and Chemicals business, has been appointed to the Board of European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic). Cefic is a nonprofit organisation which represents the leading chemical companies, in total almost 30 members, across Europe. The Board will serve a two-year term.

With Cefic we share the vision of a thriving chemical industry that is innovating toward circular models, leading on sustainability and being at the forefront of new technologies. BASF has Two People on the Move

Marko Grozdanovic appointed to head of Personal Care Europe business unit at BASF

BASF has appointed Dr. Marko Grozdanovic as head of the Personal Care Europe regional business unit and as the new Managing Director of BASF Personal Care and Nutrition GmbH, effective October 1, 2020. He succeeds Xavier Susterac who held these positions since 2017 and is leaving the company at his own request.

Liming Chen appointed to Supervisory Board of BASF SE

At the request of BASF SE, the Ludwigshafen local court (Amtsgericht) appointed Mr. Liming Chen (60), Chairman of IBM Greater China Group, to the Supervisory Board of BASF SE by way of a resolution dated October 8, 2020. The appointment became necessary after Dr. Alexander C. Karp, CEO Palantir Technologies Inc., resigned from the Supervisory Board at the end of July 2020 for professional reasons.

Stora Enso appoints two new members to its Group Leadership Team

Stora Enso appointed Tobias Bäärnman, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, as a member of the Group Leadership Team. He joined Stora Enso in 2017, first as SVP Controlling, Strategy and IT for Consumer Board division. Since December 2019, he has worked as Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer. Before joining Stora Enso, he worked as Finance Director at Iggesund Paperboard and has earlier held various positions at Statoil and Procter and Gamble. He has a master’s degree in finance.

Stora Enso also appointed Teemu Salmi, CIO and Head of IT & Digitalisation, as a member of the Group Leadership Team. He joined Stora Enso in 2017. Previously, he worked at Ericsson in various executive positions, most recently as SVP and Head of business unit IT & Cloud in Middle East & Africa. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

ThoughtTrace Announces Kristina Peterson to Join as Senior Vice President of Power and Renewables

ThoughtTrace, Inc., a Document Intelligence and Contract Analytics software company, announced the addition of Kristina Peterson as Senior Vice President, Power and Renewables.  In this new role, Ms. Peterson will provide senior leadership in sales and business development, and provide strategic guidance to ThoughtTrace customers in the power and renewables sectors.

Ms. Peterson joins ThoughtTrace from Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP), where she led its initial investment in the solar sector, acquiring TerraForm Power and TerraForm Global for $1.4 billion in equity investments in 2017.  She has specialized in growing and scaling organizations in the power generation and renewables sectors throughout her career, and has held CEO, CFO and other senior leadership roles at EDF Renewables, Greenwood Energy, and Suntech Power.  Her experience in M&A, asset management, finance and operations has reinforced her interest in utilizing AI and machine-based learning as productivity tools to better address the needs of the growing power and renewables industries.  Ms. Peterson shifted to the solar industry from a successful career in investment banking at Citibank and ABN AMRO Bank in power project finance in the U.S. and Middle East.
