India launches multi-feedstock processing trial to expand feedstock capabilities

November 9, 2020 |

In India, with the country looking to widen its ethanol feedstock supplies to include grains, the Times of India newspaper reports that a multi-feedstock pre-treatment facility has been inaugurated at the National Sugar Institute-Kanpur. The unit will allow for grains including rice, millet, corn and sorghum to be used alongside molasses feedstock to produce ethanol. To achieve 10% ethanol blending, 3.6 billion liters of ethanol is required annually, which is far above the current sugarcane-only feedstock capacity to supply.
