Argentina looking to Biden Commerce nominee to avoid WTO biodiesel spat

November 24, 2020 |

In Argentina, the Clarin newspaper reports the Foreign Ministry has not ruled out taking a complaint to the World Trade Organization over the increase in tariffs imposed on Argentine biodiesel in the US market.

The comments came from the Foreign Minister’s team after a Clarín query. And they occur days after a US complaint filed in the WTO about the obstacles to exports to the Argentine market, which increased during these eleven months of the Alberto Fernández administration.

With confirmation of Joe Biden as President-Elect, the ministry is now awaiting announcement of the next Secretary of Commerce in hopes to begin working on a diplomatic solution without having to revert to the WTO.
