German refiner sees biofuel demand returning to near pre-pandemic levels in Q4

November 24, 2020 |

In Germany, Platts reports the country’s Heide Raffinerie—a key ethanol blender— believes that the fortunes of biodiesel producers are getting a boost as the year comes to an end, with Q4 seeing biofuel demand at near pre-COVID levels while next year will be even stronger. A proposal currently under consideration would see first generation biofuels banned by 2025 with crop-based biofuels capped 2.7% by 2026. The company believes biofuels play a key part in the energy transition and that the phasing out of first generation biofuels, as proposed, is too aggressive.
