Green Fuel requiring ethanol payments be made in US dollars

November 30, 2020 |

In Zimbabwe, Bulawayo reports that Green Fuel is selling ethanol only in US dollars, requiring proof of payment from clients that they have the funds ahead of time and having all bank transfers sent to its US forex bank account. The country has suffered from severe inflation and currency fluctuations for years, which prompted the company to institute the payment requirement for the fuel that is currently selling at $1.10 per liter. The ethanol blending mandate was recently put back up to 20% from 10% when ethanol supplies were impeded by weather that slowed the sugarcane crush.
