Bolivia looks to boost biofuel production and reduce fossil fuel imports

December 29, 2020 |

In Bolivia, Prensa Latina reports state-owned Yacimiento Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos will be leading the country’s push to produce biofuels as part of the government’s strategy to reduce FX expenditure on fossil fuel imports. Part of the president’s campaign for office included reducing fuel imports by 60% which will require significant investments in biofuel production. Used cooking oil, tallow and jatropha, locally known “piñon”, are seen as likely feedstocks. Specific projects weren’t announced, just the government’s intentions to move forward with the push.
