Iran seizes South Korean-flagged tanker carrying 7,200 tons of ethanol in the Persian Gulf

January 4, 2021 |

In Iran, Reuters reports the Revolutionary Guards Corps seized a South Korean-flagged tanker carrying 7,200 metric tons of ethanol that was headed to Fujairah in the UAE from Jubail, in Saudi Arabia. The vessel was seized and escorted to Iran’s Bandar Abbas port city while its mostly South Asian crew was detained. Iran seized the vessel while it was crossing the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for South Korea freezing Iranian financial assets in their banks as a result of the US sanctions on Iran.
