Ingredion mothballs ethanol production at Cedar Rapids facility

January 6, 2021 |

In Iowa, DTN reports Ingredion will mothball its 45-million-gallon ethanol plant in Cedar Rapids by the end of this month as a result of poor market conditions despite increased production efficiencies at the facility. Other corn-based products including starch, germs and proteins will continue, which is good news for area corn farmers supplying the plant, but 30 of the 175 workers at the plant will be impacted by the decision to stop ethanol production permanently.
