European ethanol producers to scale back production in Q2 as margins crash

January 25, 2021 |

In Belgium, Platts reports European ethanol producers are looking to significantly scale back production in Q2 due to some of the lowest crush margins on record. As seen around the world, the global COVID-19 pandemic has significantly reduced driving, shrinking demand for gasoline and in turn for ethanol blending. That low demand is mixed with rising prices for feedstock, creating untenable crushing margins, such as negative EUR369/cu m for wheat and negative EUR233/cu m for corn.
