Brazilian NNE ethanol imports sink as US ethanol imports slow to a trickle

February 11, 2021 |

In Brazil, Platts reports ethanol imports into the deficit North-Northeast region were down 57% on the year in January, the lowest since 2016, as the end of the duty-free quota agreement with the US came to a close. Even though the region is the main importer of ethanol from the US, its anhydrous ethanol stocks were 73.5% higher in January compared to January 2020. Demand for hydrous ethanol as a result of higher gasoline prices has led some mills to hydrate anhydrous ethanol to meet the demand.
