Ethanol and DDGS prices skyrocket as much of the US freezes

February 17, 2021 |

In Illinois, Platts reports that the extreme cold weather hitting much of the US this week is having a negative impact on ethanol production but that is countered by higher ethanol and DDGS prices. The sharp increase in natural gas prices that is seeing some ethanol producers sell natural gas back to the spot market has been a major support for ethanol prices, bringing Chicago Argo ethanol to $1.74/gal, the highest since late 2016. Prices for DDGS have reached an all-time high of $305/st for CIF New Orleans Barges.
