Vivergo and Ensus to both restart after UK greenlights E10 for September

February 25, 2021 |

In the UK, as a result of the government’s decision to roll out E10 in September, both Vivergo and Ensus have decided to restart ethanol production. Both facilities had shut down because the delay in implementing the E10 mandate had made them inviable to continue operating.

Now that E10 has been mandated and the environment is more favorable, Vivergo says the plant will help cut transport CO2 emissions by up to 750,000 metric tons per year, the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road – or all the cars in North Yorkshire. It will also unleash the potential of the £1 billion British bioethanol industry, with the plant itself recruiting around 85 highly skilled green jobs in addition to the core team that remained in place during its closure.
