Corbion announces lactic acid capacity expansions at several sites globally

March 15, 2021 |

In the Netherlands, Corbion has announced a series of global investments in lactic acid and lactic-acid derivatives capacity.

Capacity increases are planned for the company’s sites in Gorinchem, Netherlands; Rayong, Thailand; Campos, Brazil; and Montmeló, Spain. The company had previously announced a capacity addition at Blair, Nebraska as well. All the investments combined will add about as much capacity as a new plant, and all are expected to come online before a major expansion is completed at Rayong in 2023.

“It’s crucial for us to plan ahead in anticipation of our customers’ longer-term requirements, but it’s also important to meet their more immediate needs,” says Frederik Feddes, Vice President Lactic Acid and Specialties at Corbion. “Investing in these efficiency improvements will provide greater security for customers now while the company also builds for the future. Manufacturers in multiple industries look to lactic acid and its derivatives as important enablers of their business growth as the world rapidly moves beyond fossil-based solutions.”
