Brazil cuts biodiesel blending to 10% temporarily due to soaring prices

April 12, 2021 |

In Brazil, Platts reports that following the cancelation of last week’s biodiesel auction as prices soared, the Mines and Energy Ministry has cut the B13 mandate to just B10 for May and June. The rising biodiesel prices came on the back of tight feedstock supplies. The increase to 13% biodiesel blending only came into effect on March 1 and is set to reach 15% by 2023. Biodiesel producers scaled back production during the early stages of the global pandemic but the reduction in diesel demand didn’t last long and production hasn’t been able to keep up.
