AltEn ethanol plant under fire for failure to pay taxes

April 13, 2021 |

In Nebraska, the Journal Star newspaper reports the AltEn ethanol plant in Mead keeps getting into deeper and deeper trouble. It was already shut down on order of the state for using pesticide-treated corn as ethanol feedstock which led to environmental complaints following spillage from its wastewater treatment lagoon. The State has also sued the company for environmental malpractice. Now the newspaper has discovered that there are several tax liens on its properties which it may have partially paid down with COVID relief funds, or at least refilled its coffers following partial payments on tax liens.
