US biomass-based diesel imports jumped 12% in 2020

In Washington, Hydrocarbon Engineering reports Energy Information Administration data shows biomass-based diesel jumped in 2020 to 31,000 bpd, an increase of 12% on the year. Nearly 60% of the total imports were renewable diesel, although biodiesel also qualifies under the heading of biomass-based diesel that can garner state and federal subsidies for blending. All renewable diesel imports originate in Singapore, having reached a record high in 2020 of 18,000 bpd. Biodiesel exports rose 29% in 2020 to 9,000 bpd, 90% of which went to Canada, while Canada exported 7,500 bpd of biodiesel to the US during the same period.
