Brazilian hydrous ethanol prices continue to soar despite a strong crush

May 6, 2021 |

In Brazil, Platts reports that although the sugarcane crush is well under way, ethanol prices are being driven higher by the continued premium for sugar production. But hydrous ethanol remains competitive over gasoline at the pump, keeping demand steady amidst a tightening supply scenario that has the market concerned whether ethanol production can keep up. Prices were 12% higher on the week as of Wednesday and more than 45% higher in 2021, movements supported by stocks falling by more than 200 million liters just in the first two weeks of April.
