4. Renewable jet fuel: yep we can make 35 billion with a b gallons in the United States alone using projected feedstocks

As this slide from NREL’s Zia Abdullah noted, you can make 35 billion gallons of jet fuel per year—that would convert the whole of US jet fuel consumption to bio-based, using the feedstocks that are projected to be available and affordable by 2050. That’s the good news. The bad news? There’s nowhere near that much production or harvest capacity. Yet. DOE and many private companies and airlines are working on that right now. Don’t chafe, fly SAF.
