Brazil keeps biodiesel blending at 10% through August due to high prices

May 17, 2021 |

In Brazil, Platts reports that the Mines and Energy Ministry has decided to continue the lower biodiesel blending mandate of 10% through July and August as biodiesel prices continue to remain high. Biodiesel prices have soared by nearly 100% over the past year, putting into jeopardy the country’s wider plans to support higher biodiesel blends, reaching 15% blending by March 2023. Simultaneously, the association of fuel retailers has asked for the 27% anhydrous ethanol blending mandate be lowered to 18% in light of high ethanol prices due to high sugar prices that keep mills focused on sugar production rather than ethanol.
