Planning commission votes to strip AltEn ethanol plant of conditional use permit

May 24, 2021 |

In Nebraska, DTN reports the Mead Planning Commission has voted to strip the conditional use permit from the controversial AltEn ethanol plant with a vote by the village council schedule for June 8. The facility shut down after the state of Nebraska sued it to stop polluting the nearby area. Rather than using feed corn, it was using seed corn treated with neonic pesticides that later contaminated the DDGS and wastewater from the plant, so the lagoon as well as 84,000 tons of contaminated wet cake sitting on the site are an environmental liability.
