Alternative oilseed crops could be the future but need supply chain collaboration

In Illinois, Reuters reports that farmrs, technology providers and agribusinesses alike are looking for alternatives to soybean for biofuel feedstock with covercress, carinata and camelina currently the most promising. The challenge for those crops, especially or even in the face of soaring soybean prices, is scaling up in time to take advantage of those high prices while creating a liquid market that goes beyond single offtakers that leave farmers at risk should the market shift beneath their feet.
