India pushes forward E20 mandate to 2023

June 2, 2021 |

In India, Reuters reports the government announced on Wednesday to move forward its E20 blending mandate yet again, this time to 2023 instead of 2025, which was already moved up from the original 2030 target. The Hindu Business Line reported on Tuesday a government decision to allow for standalone ethanol refineries, including rectified spirit, to be set up by adjusting the sugarcane law. Although the government has been pushing for a rapid increase in ethanol production capacity by shifting various policies surrounding feedstock and soft financing, vehicles are not yet adapted for the use of 20% ethanol, according to Reuters.
