Q: What was the reason for founding your organization – what was the open niche you saw that could be addressed with a new product or service? What was the problem, or gap, or opportunity?

The founders have a track record of dedication to clean energy. Hydrogen’s promise of net zero carbon energy was compelling so, years ago, they enthusiastically experimented with operating ICE engines on hydrogen. Results were spectacular, but hydrogen was too expensive to make this practical. With current hydrogen market projections on track to reach $11 trillion per year, the founders are determined to create low-cost hydrogen production to compete with modern fossil and renewable energy sources.

Q: Tell us about your organization. What do you do?

H24US produces the world’s lowest cost, highest performance membrane for separating hydrogen from multi-component gas streams. These inexpensive membranes can be used for splitting hydrogen from other gasses, and hydrogen purification. This technology will facilitate distributing hydrogen via existing infrastructure by adding low concentrations of hydrogen to natural gas in existing pipelines and deblending the hydrogen at the customers’ site. This concentrated hydrogen has many commercial applications and will also be used in fuel cells for consumer automobiles, as well as residential and commercial heating. The emission from use of the hydrogen is pure water, no carbon or other environmental pollutants.

Pilot stage – proven at small, non-integrated scale

Q: What do your technologies, products or services do and accomplish – how does it (they) work, who is it (they) aimed for?

H24US technology provides the highest performance, lowest cost, membrane separation product which can be used for hydrogen production and distribution for each of the three “colors of hydrogen.”:

  • In gray hydrogen which is produced thru Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) without carbon capture (CCS), H24US can lower cost by replacing pressure swing adsorption (PSA) in existing and new facilities.
  • In blue hydrogen which is produced thru Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) but with carbon capture (CCS), H24US can lower production cost by removing the CO/CO2.
  • In green or renewable hydrogen, H24US systems can de-blend hydrogen that is added as a percentage to existing natural gas pipelines for transport and distribution into consumer homes.

Q: Competitively, what gives your technology, product or service set an edge in cost or performance, sustainability, or any other aspect, that makes it stand out from the crowd, In short, what makes it transformative?

H24US technology is transformative as it is the lowest cost membrane technology because it does not use expensive precious metals like palladium or platinum in manufacturing. It does not require extensive use of electricity for the separation, so the operating costs are significantly less than conventional processes. This innovative technology utilizes Thermally Re-formed polymers (TR polymers), a new class of polymeric materials.

Q: What are the 3 top milestones you have accomplished in the past 3 years?

In less than two years, H24US has:

1) Synthesized a next-generation polymer membrane by designing materials that have crossed the current upper technology boundary. Advancing from being equivalent to far exceeding competitors in both lower cost and higher performance.

2) H24US has progressed from Incubation stage R/D to ready for funding for mass production.

3) IP Protected with 2 provisional patents filed.

Q: What are the 3 top milestones you will accomplish in the next 3 years?

In the next three years we will accomplish the following milestones:

1) Develop low cost, high volume robotic manufacturing, ramping to produce millions of units.

2) Successful pilot de-blending demonstration with a major utility.

3) Achieve profitability in year 3 on an operational basis.
