Faux foie gras firm to expand into other poultry products

July 19, 2021 |

In France, cultured foie gras startup Gourmey has raised $10 million and announced plans to expand into cultured poultries, including duck, chicken and turkey.

The funding was led by Point Nine and Air Street Capital. Heartcore, Partech Bpifrance, and the European Commission also participated.

“Poultry is the most consumed and fastest growing meat on the planet, so it is an obvious choice to maximize our impact,” Nicolas Morin-Forest, Gourmey CEO and cofounder said in a statement.  “Foie gras, the single most premium and decadent poultry meat on the planet with a $2B market, is our flagship product. Other premium duck, chicken, and turkey meats from the finest breeds are coming next.”

Gourmey hopes to have product in the market by late 2022 or early 2023.  Food service will be the first outlet.

“What sets us apart is our focus on taste through gastronomic and food sciences,” adds Gourmey CTO Dr. Victor Sayous. “We have demonstrated this know-how on foie gras, which is arguably the most complex fine food in the world, and we are now confidently expanding our product portfolio.”
