Indian sugar mills seen earning $2 billion thanks to ethanol production this year

In India, the Economic Times of India newspaper reports the Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs told the Lok Sabha parliament in a written statement that sugar mills are expected to earn $2 billion from ethanol this season, in the year ending in November. More than 2 million metric tons of sugar will likely be diverted to ethanol this season, up from 332,000 tons and 926,000 tons the two prior seasons, respectively, which 3.5 million tons of sugar is expected to be diverted next season as ethanol production capacity continues to ramp up.
