#2 Sweet supply deal: Pineapple leather maker partners with Dole

In London, the creators of a vegan leather made from pineapple leaf fibers have partnered with Dole Sunshine Company to help expand production.

Ananas Anam, creators of Piñatex vegan leather, says using fiber from pineapple plants used by Dole will allow it to access a much larger amount of feedstock for its Philippines-based production.

Dole says the deal will help it reach its waste-reduction goals. “Addressing food waste is absolutely important to us, as it is connected to our business and our lives in so many ways,” says Pier-Luigi Sigismondi, global president, Dole Sunshine Company. “I believe to create tangible solutions and real systemic change to address this issue, we need to converge our purpose with creativity, innovation, and technology. Our partnership with Ananas Anam coupled with global lifestyle brands’ use of this innovation truly bring this convergence to life in a new way.”

Piñatex has been used by brands like Nike, Hugo Boss, H&M, and Hilton.
