Brazilian president signs temporary law allowing ethanol producers to sell directly to retailers

August 11, 2021 |

In Brazil, Reuters reports that President Bolsonaro has signed a temporary decree that gives gas stations the ability to buy hydrous ethanol directly from producers and importers while also allowing them to sell fuels from other suppliers than their own brand in an effort to make the sector more competitive. To become a permanent law, Congress must approve it within 120 days of implementation, which is expected for December. Ethanol producers have been fighting for years for the opportunity to market their fuel directly to gas stations without passing through intermediates.
