ClassNK releases marine biofuels guidance

In Japan, to support on measures for GHG emissions reduction, ClassNK has released “Handling of the use of biofuels on ships” on its website, which outlines the procedures and cautions to be taken when using biofuels for ships. The nine-point FAQ-style document runs through the basics of what different marine biofuels are available currently in the market as well as the kinds of potential challenges shipowners and operators should watch out for when considering the switch to these new fuels.
