Stake in Steak: Shiok acquires 90% of cultured beef startup

August 16, 2021 |

In Singapore, Shiok Meats has acquired a 90% stake in Gaia Foods, a company developing cultured meats including beef, pork, and mutton, for an undisclosed sum.

Shiok Meats is known for cultured seafood, and in July announced funding for a production facility.

Both companies are based in Singapore, which became the first country to approve a cultured meat product when it okayed Eat Just’s cultured chicken late last year. Shiok hopes to offer cultured shrimp and beef for products such as dumplings, noodles, and spring rolls by 2023.

Tech in Asia first broke the news.
