Indian ethanol shipped by rail for first time

August 25, 2021 |

In India, the Times of India newspaper reports that ethanol was transported by rail for this first time this week, loading 15 wagons at the Loni terminal in Maharashtra and delivering it to Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh. Although the government recently announced it would look at developing ethanol pipelines, the shift to rail from trucking is already a significant improvement in transportation. Ethanol production is concentrated in key sugarcane producing regions for the time being until cereal-based and waste-based production kicks off, making getting ethanol supplies to non-key producing regions challenging.
