RFA says low RVO would “cripple” ethanol industry

In Illinois, Brownfield Ag News reports that the Renewable Fuels Association fears cutting the blending mandate for 2021 as proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency could “cripple” the ethanol industry. Ethanol production is currently 3.5 billion gallons below where it could be if it was running at full capacity, meaning that ethanol is more expensive to produce and could become more so if the renewable volume obligation is set even lower than current demand requires.
