West Bengal developing policy to be self-sufficient in rice bran ethanol in five years

In India, the Financial Express newspaper reports that just days after fuel retailers in West Bengal held a 24-hour strike protesting higher levels of ethanol blending, the state’s Chief Minister has announced her government is developing a policy that would see West Bengal become self-sufficient in ethanol production, using rice bran as feedstock. She estimates that the push for ethanol production will lead to 48,000 new jobs in the next five years while creating a market for broken rice.
