August D6 RIN production slips but D4 RIN production strengthens

September 16, 2021 |

In Washington, Reuters reports Environmental Protection Agency data shows D6 RIN production fell by 600,000 in August to 1.21 billion. On the other hand, D4 renewable diesel RINs rose slightly to 421 million from the month prior when production was 359 million. With the renewable volume obligations still unclear for 2021 and 2022, the market is having a hard time finding direction unless it is guided by speculation and rumor, which is exactly what oil refiners are trying to avoid by pushing for compliance waivers.
