Germany to ban palm oil for biodiesel by 2023

September 22, 2021 |

In Germany, following an earlier announcement in February, Reuters reports the country has decided to ban palm oil as a biofuel feedstock by 2023, instead focusing on waste-based feedstocks such as used cooking oil, with a yet-to-be decided quota. Palm oil only accounted for 3.9% of biodiesel feedstock use in 2020 with rapeseed oil making up more than 60% of the total, followed by used cooking oil at 25% and soy oil making up the remainder.
