India sees ethanol consumption jumping five-fold with flex-fuel vehicles

In India, India Infrahub reports that the transportation minister believes by mandating the manufacture of domestic flex-fuel engines will see ethanol demand jump five-fold, ensuring achievement of 20% ethanol blending by 2025. E20 is expected to require 10 billion liters of ethanol consumption annually. At the moment, the sugar industry provides 90% of ethanol production. He says that as much as 6 million metric tons of sugar can be diverted to ethanol through Heavy-B molasses. The Hindu Business Line reported he also said that aviation fuel can use ethanol, providing another outlet for domestic production.
