On-board sensor system for early ID of deposit formation in fuels containing biodiesel

October 17, 2021 |

In Germany, UFOP and the Fuels Joint Research Group published a new report that looks at the development of an on-board fuel quality sensor system for early identification of deposit formations in fuels containing biodiesel, why it is important for plug-in hybrid vehicles, and more.

UFOP reports that in plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), the advantages of two technologies (electric drive and combustion engine) are combined: This means that both, local emission-free driving and a long distance range drives are guaranteed. Short distance use in everyday life enables long-term electric drive. However, this means long fuel storage time in the tank, leading to physical and chemical fuel degradation. Consequently, the development of a fuel quality sensor is important for PHEV and introduced in this report.
