PETA praises H&M’s animal-free fashion line

November 1, 2021 |

In Sweden, fast fashion leader H&M has launched a PETA-approved, animal-free collection featuring innovations like grape leather and a down made from flowers instead of geese.

Dubbed Co-Exist, the line aims to emphasize that viable animal-free alternatives for fashion exist today. The line includes a puffer jacket made from down-alternative FLWRDWN, a vest made from a wine-waste leather alternative, and a skirt made from waste like fishing nets and old carpets. H&M has previously introduced items made from cactus leather and castor-oil yarn.

H&M Senior Designer Malin Dubois says the collection was styled for “modern urbanites” who partake in the “social hubs of city life” but also enjoy weekends immersed in nature.

PETA applauded H&M for its “kinder to the planet and to the animals who live on it” approach to fashion. “Much of our work at PETA is accomplished by forming positive relationships with companies such as H&M as we strive to end the use of animal-derived materials,” PETA Corporate Responsibility Manager Laura Shields says.

The collection will be available on the web and in some stores later this week.
