In India, the Hindu newspaper reports the Indian Sugar Mills Association believes the country will achieve 10% ethanol blending in the current season that began on December 1. Last season achieved a record blending level of 8.1%. Already more than 3.60 billion liters have been accepted for purchase by oil marketing companies during two cycles. To achieve 10%, a total of 4.59 billion liters will be required. With the support of government financing and pricing policies, sugarcane mills have significantly increased ethanol production and continue to do so, in addition to other distilleries being built using corn, broken rice and other non-sugarcane feedstocks.
