Oman’s first biodiesel producer to be solar powered

December 22, 2021 |

In Oman, the Oman Daily Observer reports that Al Shawamikh Oil Services will install a solar energy system at Wakud’s biodiesel facility, the country’s first. The plant uses used cooking oil collected locally as feedstock for the biodiesel it produces. The decision to power the facility with solar power, the largest one of its kind in the Gulf region, is as a result of the country’s various environmental commitments under the Paris climate agreement including 20% renewable power by 2030.
